“The Big Press Conference”

April 29th, 2008 · No Comments · Politics

Transcript via the NYT.

Predictably, we got the line that “the person [Obama] saw yesterday was not the person that [he] met 20 years ago.” Followed by a relentless dismantling of Wright. Without question, this is the speech Obama should have given a month and a half ago.

At least as far as I am concerned, the issue is now over with and we can finally give Obama a grade for how he handled the entire affair. Overall, I think he eventually managed to hand in a B- response, but it was six weeks late, so I’m forced to deduct a significant number of points. In the end, I’d give him a barely-passing grade of D+.

Amusing responses from elsewhere:

Andrew Sullivan - after an awkward evening where he Dared to Doubt His Candidate - is back in the comfortable womb of Obamania:

That was a very impressive, clear and constructive re-framing of the core message of his candidacy; and a moment given to him by Wright. No one will ever be able to say that Obama threw his father-figure and pastor under the bus.

Talk Left:

He’s throwing Wright under the bus…

Well, almost no one…
