Seven reasons why Clinton should stay in the race

May 8th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Politics

From The Atlantic:

Pretty standard stuff overall, but #3 is actually an interesting point:

3. Embarrassment. If she drops out tomorrow and winds up winning in West Virginia and Kentucky, Obama will be mightily embarrassed. Having her in the race gives him an excuse for losing those two states. (I ran this by an Obama adviser who said, “We’ll take our chances.”)

I doubt she’s actually sticking around because of this, but it is a good point. If/when Clinton drops out, a loss or even a victory that isn’t overwhelming in the states that remain would start the Obama campaign off on a very weak foot. It probably IS for the best that she sticks around through the remaining contests regardless of the outcome.

Hey, that is a good point. I agree, non-sarcastically. It would actually be kind of nice of her, because it might be embarrassing for Clinton herself to stay in the race after several more weeks of many, many people saying she should quit. It’s not ego, it’s taking one for the team.

Her staying in the race doesn’t bother me. The annoying thing (for me) is Wolf Blitzer and his Amazing Friends pretending it’s still all dramatic and suspenseful.
