Not one more damn, goofy protest.

January 22nd, 2005 · No Comments · Politics, Rants

Mark Dery’s take on the foolishness of the Not One Damn Dime “protest” from earlier this week is spot-on. Dery points out that it’s not merely a largely useless effort, but that it also “reeks of bobo sanctimony and cultural elitism” or - as one of the comments notes - is nothing more than the left-wing version of a magnetic “support our troops” ribbon.

Any member of the Adbusters-reading, Supersize Me-watching leisure class who honestly believes she can Stick It to the Man by keeping her dimes firmly in her hand-knitted Guatemalan rucksack, right beside her manically underlined copy of Chomsky’s Hegemony or Survival: America’s Quest for Global Dominance, is unlikely to be seen rolling a 55-gallon drum of Miracle Whip out of Wal-Mart or rejoicing in fried offal at the local McDonald’s. The NOMDD demographic consists largely, if not entirely, of inconspicuous consumers.

Read the whole thing. It’s very, very good.
