That’s how many new blogs are created every day - according to the BBC. (Via Lum)

On the one hand, it’s nice to see people taking an interest in… uh… well, whatever the hell blogging’s purpose is. Glorified navel-gazing, I suppose. But the signal-to-noise ratio is starting to get pretty dodgy.

It’d be handy to have something built into RSS readers to help you filter out new, probably-quite-shitty blogs until they’ve “proven” themselves in some fashion. Perhaps an archival search that notes the date of earliest post to allow you to limit certain searches to sites that have been around for X period of time or longer or a series of metrics that allow you set only bring up results from pages that provide a certain number of posts on average to help weed out the undoubtedly MASSIVE number of abandoned sites.

Stuff like this makes me wonder what sort of Byzantine horrors await us on the Internet of the Not-Too-Distant Future.
