…lest they turn your words against you:

Overall, a very tame presentation of Obama’s patently false statements.

I meant to mention this earlier: I know McCain said ’stay in Iraq 100 years’, not ‘100 years of war’, but there’s a problem with that distinction. In order for those to be two distinct things, one has to assume that this would be period of ‘peaceful occupation’, rather than a situation where the occupying troops are shooting at people and/or getting shot at. Assuming, for the sake of argument, that this is a realistic assessment, it sort of still begs the question: ‘Why have the troops there in the first place? They can not get shot at back home.’ In this period, if they’re doing anything other than ‘Iran containment’, then they’re still at war. The equation of ‘100 years in Iraq’ and ‘100 years of war’ is not an unreasonable assessment.

I think the reason a lot of people equate the two statements ‘100 in Iraq’ and ‘100 years of war’ is because the assumptions one needs to make them distinct (i.e. the troops are not fighting, but are still there for some reason, etc.) don’t make a lot of sense. In other words, one could say that they’re logically distinct, but one could also argue they’re empirically identical.

I realize you disagree and I hope my tone doesn’t sound too hostile or anything. I mean it as a reasonable disagreement between reasonable people, i.e. two guys arguing over a beer, rather than (baby Jesus help us), arguing on TV.
