Arlen Specter switches parties.

April 28th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

This is - officially - HUGE.
The Democrats now have a filibuster-proof majority (or they will once Franken is finally seated). There is so much on the line now that it’s hard to really fathom the potential consequences. Everything they’ve complained about for the past thirty years or so is now up for correction. [...]

Good news/bad news.

April 22nd, 2009 · No Comments · Politics, Rants

Good news:
Our network TV and radio companies have been decisively shown to have put aside partisan rancor in order to report - clearly and with a single voice - on important news of the day.
Bad news:
They did it by actively participating in a massive disinformation campaign aimed at presenting “retired military experts” as neutral commentators [...]

GM bloodletting.

March 30th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

Obama has flexed his muscles (or his wallet’s muscles) and forced out the CEO of GM and demanded a revamped board in exchange for more sweet, sweet bailout cash.
I am of two minds on this.

Barack Obama will…

- Teach men to fish (so that they may eat).
- Teach men to fly (so that they may… uh… fly).
- Become invisible to save the planet.
- Become an Angel to fight Republicans in Hell.
- Prove to be very popular with Korean gamers:

Michael Steele updates GOP image, offends midgets.

February 19th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

Oh, Michael, you crazy, puppy-loving madman:
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele says his party is going to launch an “off the hook” public relations campaign that will update the GOP’s image by translating it to “urban-suburban hip-hop settings.”

He added, jokingly, that “we need to uptick our image with everyone, including one-armed midgets.”
From here.
[EDIT] Of course, [...]

From Time Magazine…

January 21st, 2009 · 1 Comment · Politics

Hehe:
And let it be recorded that Obama’s first act as President was to correct Chief Justice John Roberts, who managed somehow to mangle the 35-word oath of office, misplacing the word faithfully, as in “faithfully execute the office of President …” Roberts then mangled it a second time, Obama raised an eyebrow, and Roberts moved [...]

After eight long, tiresome years, President Al Gore won’t be missed.

January 18th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

From The Guardian:
No one thought Al Gore would be a loveable president, but, after eight years in the White House, he has gotten truly tiresome. The droning voice, the purchase of an eco-friendly robot dog, the campaign for carbon-free diamonds - all these things were hard to take, and he has been way too smug [...]

Obama to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell?

January 15th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics

Andrew Sullivan thinks he will (though his current Change.gov link seems to have no actual information related to DADT).
Here’s hoping it proves true.
Given that the apocalyptic state of the economy is essentially torpedoing most of his major domestic plans and that pragmatism has forced him into a defensive posture on things like Gitmo and time [...]

Nancy Pelosi: History’s Greatest Monster

January 15th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics, Rants

If she was JUST a creepy cat lady, that would be bad enough, but being “Rick Rolled” by the person who is third in line for the Presidency is beyond my ability to tolerate.

Wait… WHAT?

January 13th, 2009 · No Comments · Politics, Rants

Apparently, Obama recently spent an evening hanging out with William “That Total Jackass” Kristol.
It’s one thing to reach across the aisle, but it’s another thing entirely to have a nice dinner with the other side of the aisle’s psychopathic fringe. I’m going to be SO pissed off if - on Inauguration Day - Obama [...]

Why today matters.

I’m in Moscow. I’ve had a shit day.
What follows features the sort of language I doubt is “Work Safe”. It’s not “funny profanity” either, so be warned.

He ran a good campaign, but after this bombshell it’s hard not to believe that Obama is doomed (via Shortpacked):

Experience may be critical after all. You KNOW Patrick Leahy wouldn’t have made this sort of mistake.
